Upon opening the selected carton(s), a strong and unusual chemical odour was immediately noticeable. The odour appeared to originate from the goods and/or their packaging and was recorded for further assessment.

A sample teddy bear was removed from the shipment and visually examined. Photographs were taken from the front, rear and both sides.

Examination of the rear of the product identified a zippered access compartment. The compartment was opened, revealing a removable purple electronic unit incorporated inside the teddy bear.

The electronic unit was removed for closer visual examination. Product warnings, compliance markings and manufacturer information were observed and photographed.

Several labels were identified inside the product, including a Digital Product Passport (DPP) QR code, a material-composition claim, product/model identification and care/safety instructions. These labels were individually photographed for further verification.

Due to the unusual chemical odour and the observations made during the physical examination, one teddy bear was selected as an official sample and sent to the German Customs laboratory for further analysis. Laboratory results were pending at the time of this inspection report.

The inspection findings and photographic evidence were recorded without assessment of conformity. Any inconsistencies are to be evaluated against the customs declaration, accompanying documentation and the results of any further examination or laboratory analysis.
